Why do you do theatre?

Theatre is a place where people get to express themselves and create something bigger than they could imagine. It’s a collaborative effort to make something the world has never seen before. Each show is a unique experience. I love the idea of a new adventure at every turn, and the passion and work that gets put into each one.

Inspiring moment?

My most inspiring moment of theatre would have to be our first tech run of She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms. My whole design was completely thrown out of the window the first day of tech, and we made the decision to do the show from the actors homes. It was the only way we could put on the best version possible of the show. Because of this, I sent actors home with lights and prayed they could hit the cues I wanted in the show. I was blown away by the professionalism of the actors, who after only half on hour with me, hit every cue I wanted for my design. It was a moment of happiness and community we don't often see between designers and actors. The fact they they were thrown lights and cues so quickly and never missed a beat was really inspiring and joyous.

Community Engagement?

Since coming to Muncie, I have spent the past three years working with the local community theatre. Muncie Civic Theatre is a historic theatre in town that has a focus of community engagement and youth growth. I have had the pleasure to work on over ten youth productions in roles such as production assistant, stage manager, director, and designer. I have also had the opportunity to lighting design three of their main stage shows as well. I have also had the pleasure of volunteering at local recreational centers in Muncie through Lowe's Hero's Build volunteer program for its employees.
